Welcome To An Object A Day!

This blog will feature unconnected, unplanned objects I find in my house daily. Could be interesting, most likely will not be.

Wall Series - Day 03 and Day 04 - Green Wall and Pink Wall

It's green. Anything to say, really?

Day 03 - Green Wall
I know it doesn't look a bit like pink, but again, you're going to have to trust me. It's a very pale shade of pink.

Day 04 - Pink Wall

Wall Series - Day 02 - Yellow Wall (Middle room)

Considering the time, lighting, shadows and darkness of the yellow paint, this doesn't look particularly yellow. But why would I lie about the colour of a wall?

Day 02 - Yellow Wall (Middle room)

Wall Series - Day 01 - Blue Wall (My bedroom)

In commemoration of Roger Waters performances of The Wall Live coming to Australia next year (next year? Uwaaaaa!?), we here at An Object A Day (meaning me, He Who Must Not Turn Down Donations) bring to your the first of our Wall Series.

Day 01 - Blue Wall (My bedroom)

Donkey Cards and Bedside Lamp

Some sort of party cracker quality deck of cards. 2 of certain animals and a card explaining rules. Never played with them. How do I know this? All the pairs are in order.
My bedside lamp. It isn't even plugged in because the powerpoint I used to use is occupied. Yet it stays there, hoping I'll plug it in someday. I try not to get its hopes up but it waits for me, sometimes weeping when it thinks I'm looking the other way.

Light Globe

I used to have a recurring nightmare (one of many) where the light in my room would not work. It would feel like real life and I would walk in my room, flick the switch and the light would not come on. The rest of the dream usually of monsters appearing from the darkness in other rooms as I walked around within the last few seconds of the dream. The happenings in the dream weren't so scary, just the fact that I knew something would come to 'get' me in the end. A few years ago (years after the nightmare had finished) my lightbulb actually had fizzled out. I didn't think it was a dream because of course, in real life you know it's real life. In a dream you only think it's a dream.

Glow in the Dark Planets and Stars

They've been on my bedroom ceiling for as long as I remember. There used to be 2 planets but one seems to be gone now. I also remember then being way brighter than they are when the lights are off these days.
I almost didn't bother adding the glowing image because the quality is so poor and they glow oh so non-brightly. But what the hell, it's the whole point of them, they might as well earn their keep.

Goggles Case

There's a story behind this goggles case. Once upon a time I had a set of goggles. They broke. I then required a new set of goggles. This is the case that contained that new set of goggles. For years they were the only pair I owned and used. Then, at the start of 2011, they were used for the last time. Not by me, but by somebody else. Physics and the natural order of the universe could not allow this, as they belonged to me, but I attempted to break this order by being generous and selfless by lending them to said other person. It would be a manner of minutes, perhaps seconds after I consented their use by the other that they had decided that they would rather destroy themselves than protect the eyes of another. Loyal to the bitter end, the goggles died that day after being returned to mine hands. The offer to have the goggles replaced was not one that I could accept, for no other goggles could be as loyal as those as brave as the ones that would rather take their own life than serve the eyes of another. The case was kept as a reminder of the bond we once had, and will remain with me until the memory of the goggles has faded.

tl;dr?
Somebody broke my goggles, you know who you are you bastard.

PS: The goggles didn't really mean anything to me.

Prologue:
Lucas never replaced his goggles. He hasn't submerged his head in water ever since.

Juan's Sombrero and Roy the Gorilla

When my friend Juan was about to go to New Zealand, he and I went to another friend's house to have a sort of farewell hangout. I can't remember why, but he brought his sombrero and the two of them wore theirs (I didn't have one). When Juan left the next day he left it behind, so I took it home with me. He came back soon after and I never did give it back. Juan, if you read this, remind me about the sombrero and I'll give it back to you.
I have a handful of gorillas/monkeys similar to this one. This was the second last one I got before I stopped getting them/stopped finding any.

Spongebob Squarepants Poster

A bit of background information. Back in grade 6, we used to play Blackjack and gamble with whatever we had in our pencilcases, be it pencils, pens, textas, erasers, rulers, broken bits of stationary. We had some objects that would be bet every round and would go back and forth all the time. At one point, we let somebody else play who hadn't played with us before. For some unforeseen reason, he bet this poster. Naturally, me being a Spongebob lover I had to have it. I happened to win that hand, and then of course I didn't re-bet it. It's probably the only object of any value that was ever bet that year (but it was still nice to have a large pile of broken pencils to bet, they felt like some form of currency).

Furless Tennis Ball

No, this is not a round chocolate egg (unfortunately!). It's a tennis ball without any green fur on it.No real story behind this one. I found it (as one does with tennis balls) many years ago without the fur on it.

Ball in a Cup and Russian Doll Dice

Can't remember where I got this, but I do remember insisting on if mum bought it for me, I would use it. I would definitely use it and not get bored of it in 5 minutes. Of course, I got bored of it. How a child's mind works, a mystery to me.
I'm pretty sure this one was another show bag toy from the Royal Melbourne Show. The Gag Magic Bag if I'm not mistaken, but then again, I don't see how this is a gag, nor magic. If anything, it's just a compact storage device, despite the fact that the extra containers take up the precious space. I never use this either.

Tech Deck and Dragon Ball Z Tazos

Remember when Tech Deck was the hottest thing around? It was so important to me and everybody else, even though I never figured out how to do any tricks with it. Yet the advertising is still engraved in my brain. 'Tech Deck Pee Wee trick boarders! Let it move in the palm of your hand!' This one is a Birdhouse deck design, which I know to be Tony Hawk's brand. Probably means nothing in terms of these little toys though.
These came out of chip packets back in the day. The ones in the middle are series one and they were huge. We would trade them at school but we never actually played with them because seemingly, nobody knew how! Just like Pokemon cards, which eventually got picked up when we were in grade 6 after Yu-Gi Oh! got a little dry. Oh, to be young again.

JB Hi-Fi Shopping Bag

In commemoration of the first JB Hi-Fi store closing its doors forever this Sunday, todays object is the bag that contained my last purchases from my #1 stop for music, games, DVD's and just a quick browse to see what was cheap, what was new and what was interesting at JB Hi-Fi, Centreway.
My final purchase was:
Deaf Forever - The Best of Motorhead - Motorhead
I bought this despite usually disliking compilation albums, but it was cheap, and I don't see myself buying too many Motorhead albums because they're always overpriced and understocked.

TheFutureEmbrace - Billy Corgan
I spotted this on my way out for the low, low price of 5 bucks. Considering this was Billy Corgan's only solo album and it was a departure from classic Smashing Pumpkins material, I decided to go for it anyway as I have been branching out into different genres recently.

Rock In Rio - Iron Maiden
I have wanted to get this for a while now, and I am very happy with the packaging of it. Some albums come with a pissy little tray card instead of proper liner notes (compilations mostly), but this one not only came with a beefy book of notes, it contained lyrics for all the songs despite being a live album, with pictures of the show. That's what you always want.

So after spending thousands of dollars over the years at JB Hi-Fi Centreway, an era comes to a close.

Dynamo Torch

'batteries never required'
Tom Hanks sure could've used this in Castaway, eh? Infinite light from dynamo power. One easy power of whatever it costs and you can control light.

Stress Earth

This may not be the same one, I may have had more than one, but as I remember it, I got this stress ball depicting Earth when I was in Greenwich, England. As far as stress balls go it does the exact same job. As far as a ball to roll, it serves poorly as the USA is a fat piece of land that makes the Earth lopsided (political jabs, anyone?).

Bass picks and Calculator/Pen

Due to the absence of a post yesterday, there will be two objects today.

These are the picks that came with my bass guitar. Naturally as the strings are thicker than guitar strings, I used the thickest of the three (see right). That explains the bluntness of the end, and the near complete fading of the brand name and thickness (I think it's 0.98mm). The one on the left is the thinnest (obviously) and I experimented with the sound it produced for a few days before I snapped the end of when playing aggressive thrash riffs. I never found the tip of it. The middle one, I can't remember how it snapped but I have other picks now and these ones have since been retired.

Back in primary school these were all the rage. A small calculator with pen that revolved around itself. I've had a couple before, not sure which one this is, but the kids in grade 5 or 6 got to take a survey once and the reward for doing it was one of these. I think just about everybody took the survey. Those were simpler times.

Uno Stacko

Again, I can't remember where I got this. It gathers dust now on my shelves. I've only used it a couple times, despite it being a pretty unique game. Not much to say about this one, actually.

Glass Water Bottle

I've had this glass water bottle for a bit over a year or so. I think we bought 6 of them packaged together or something, and this was the last one. Water seems to taste great coming out of this bottle. Along with the Garfield pillow from yesterday, this sits on my bedhead of a night in case I get thirsty. Again, if I need to drink from it, I know that I won't be getting to sleep for a while.

Garfield Pillow

This is another object from a showbag at the Royal Melbourne Show. Obviously this is from a Garfield themed showbag, probably the Garfield Maxi Bag, or something like that. This pillow has been on my bed for many years providing a cool surface or some height during sleepless nights on the print side. The other side is plain purple and provides some warmth, but this barely ever gets used. This is only the tip of the iceberg of Garfield objects I own. But this is an object blog, not a Garfield blog so you may or may not see more of these.

Fake Cockroach

I think this came with a showbag from the Royal Melbourne Show some 5 or 6 years ago. It's just been sitting on my shelves for years doing absolutely nothing. Imagine what I could get up to with this...
Also, I really need to vacuum my floor.

EDIT: Follow up
Lucas vacuumed his floor and went on to lead a successful life.

Rain Delay

Due to unforeseen reasons, today's object is not uploading. Will try again tomorrow, sorry.

Rubber Chicken & Crazy String

Due to the absence of a post yesterday, there will be two objects today.

This rubber chicken was bought last year for the express purpose of being a prop in a short trailer I did for my character Hucking Filarious's upcoming DVD. The trailer itself can be viewed here. As I always do with films I've done, I have come to dislike that trailer, but the character will possibly resurface someday.

This was bought for me, it might have been 7 years ago for my birthday. But I never got around to using it due to the fact that I probably would have had to clean it up afterwards. As a result, most of the string is still in there. It may be toxic or something so I dare not use it for fear of becoming some kind of stringy mutant. Anybody who wants it can have it.

Mr. Freeze

Mr. Freeze (portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger) as he appeared in the 1997 motion picture Batman & Robin. I watched Batman & Robin last night, and contrary to my childhood belief that I would enjoy it despite it being corny and awful, I didn't enjoy it due to it being corny and awful. Seriously, about 95% of the dialogue was made up of puns and ice themed jokes. The writer should actually be commended for being able to achieve such a horrible feat.
This action figure was probably from a McDonald's Happy Meal. I don't remember getting it, but that's where most of my toys would have come from. This one in particular was one of my favorites, along with Reed Richards from Fantastic 4 and War Machine from Iron Man. It came with the freeze gun as well.

Big Ben

When I was in England in 2005 with my family, we went to many tourist attractions. I remember I saw this model Big Ben, it may have been in the gift shop at Madame Tussauds, for 10 pounds. I didn't buy it because mum told me that we could find it elsewhere cheaper. After spotting the same model a handful of times, none of which were cheaper, I eventually bought one from a street vendor for 15 pounds. I can't remember why, but I really, really wanted one. Was it the shiny gold? Was it the sophisticated clock face? Regardless of these points of interest, it no longer runs because let's be honest, who bothers to buy watch batteries? Also, the clock face doesn't click back into position anymore, something holding it in slid out and now the clock face rests on the shelf next to Big Ben.

Hong Kong Concession Card

This is a concession card I have had since late 2004 when I went on holiday with my family to Britain with a stop on the way at Hong Kong. I have no idea where we traveled on the map shown on the back, and I find it curious that there is no expiration date printed on the card (foreign tourist fare evasion?). I'm not sure why I kept it, I only noticed it was on my bookshelf a couple months ago. Of course, now that I've kept it for over 5 years, I might as well keep on keeping it, right? Maybe they've changed the design since and it's now a one of a kind! I'll be rich! Or not...

Wilson Tennis Balls

This is a tube of Wilson tennis balls. It originally contained 3 balls but over the years they have weathered away and one has ceased to exist. Or maybe I hit it over the fence.
I received these tennis balls as a gift one year with my Wilson tennis racquet on my 5th or 6th or 7th birthday from my Nanna. As we already had tennis balls, I felt that the fact these were Wilson brand meant they were more valuable. That and the fact that they were a gift, I never used them for fear of knocking them over the fence. When friends came over and we played tennis however, these were the ones they grabbed right away. Thus ends the mystery of the missing third ball!
